Ten toes down.
Working as part of a 72-hour creative sprint with Good Measure was an experience of a lifetime. The pop-up agency brings together creative talent of multiple disciplines to build a brand from the ground up for a worthy cause.
At the start of the weekend, on a Friday evening, we were introduced to a collective of Memphis artists— yet to be named—who were already working together to use art (dance, music, filmmaking, photography, and more) to help heal trauma in the community. By the end of Sunday night, the Good Measure crew had created a brand identity, brand applications, the name “Grounded,” a unified creative vision, a website, and video content to help further the group’s mission.
My small contribution to this monumental endeavor was my experience in motion design and social media to create logo animations and content for Instagram. My years of experience meeting tight deadlines and being “scrappy” also came in handy, as I was able to come up with efficiencies in the production process. As video interviews were being conducted with the artists, I proactively took notes on set, running a stop watch, and adding time stamps to notable soundbites in a live document. This allowed editing to happen concurrently with filming: as each individual interview wrapped, the editors were able to receive the footage along with the notes and immediately pinpoint the most compelling clips without having to scrub through all of it, saving precious time as the weekend ticked by.
What I gained? So much more. Proximity to the healing energy and creative genius from the individuals that make up what is currently known as the Grounded team. A reinvigorated perspective on what is possible with little time and a lot of will. And inspiration from a group of people who want to use their skills to make a positive impact in the world.
